Happy Monday,

This week we talk about short putts – what happens on tour, what it means for your golf game and how to practice them.

We also have the usual tip of the week and a quick video on shot game strategy.

Enjoy.

Putting Performance On Tour – Why Your Short Putts Matter

In 2021 I did a deep dive into the PGA Tour stats, you can read the full article below (the fancy interactive charts work best on laptop/desktop).

Although the names have changed since 2021, the trends and core findings have stayed the same. This week I wanted to share one finding and how it applies to your golf game.

Below is a table showing the best, worst and average putting conversion rate on the PGA Tour by distance.

Putting isn’t the most important factor in explaining scoring differences on tour, this is partly because they are all so dam good inside 5ft and 10ft!

Inside 5 feet

The worst putters on tour are missing less than 7 out of 100 putts in tournament conditions inside 5ft. The best putters are missing 8 in every 1,000 putts inside 5ft in tournaments!

Every putt you miss costs you one full shot, so focus your time and effort on improving your putting 5ft until you become very good.

No physical limitations are stopping you from becoming world-class in this area, and 10 minutes practice a week can make a big difference t your performance (see the Break X Putting Game below).
