Elite Golf Biomechanics What Separates the Best Players?
What separates the best golfers from the rest? Biomechanics expert Mark Bull reveals why movement patterns, beliefs, and even emotions shape your swing – and how you can use this knowledge to improve.

🏌️♂️ Rapid-Fire Takeaways:
✅ Your beliefs shape your movement. If you think "keep your head still," your body adapts – often in ways that hurt performance.
✅ More mobility ≠ better golf. Increased range of motion doesn't automatically translate to better ball-striking – you need to learn how to use it.
✅ Emotions impact your swing. Anxiety or frustration can alter movement patterns, affecting consistency and shot shape.
✅ Biomechanics isn’t just about positions. Understanding the forces behind movement matters more than "perfect" positions.
✅ Environment changes movement. Grass type, wind, and even daylight exposure can influence how you swing.
✅ The best golfers have movement patterns in common. Despite different styles, top players share biomechanical traits at impact.
✅ Training doesn’t always transfer. Just because you improve in the gym doesn’t mean your golf swing will improve immediately.
⛳️ A Challenge for Your Next Round:
🔹 Test your belief systems. Pick one long-standing swing thought (e.g., "keep my head still" or "rotate more") and challenge it. Does it actually help your consistency and ball flight?
🔹 Manage emotions on the course. Track how stress, frustration, or nerves affect your ball-striking and scoring. If you notice a pattern, focus on pre-shot breathing or visualization to reset.
PS – You can use this ‘Psychology Scorecard’ I built here to see your levels of focus and scoring are related.
💡 Quick Hits for Better Golf:
🎯 Good variability vs. bad variability: Not all variability in the golf swing is bad. We also have functional variability which helps us adapt to the varying constraints we face on the golf course – different lies, slopes, wind etc.
